Always in the right place at the right time.Posted by simon on April 18th, 2009
Life gives us these fleeting moments when we suddenly feel like we are in the right place at the right time or conversely the wrong place at the wrong time. The reality is we are always in the exact place we need to be. I feel I have lived a blessed life, not that my life hasn’t had it’s share of misfortune but the good has outweighed the bad. A portion of that is taking your misfortune and creating your own good times from it. A bad situation is only a bad situation until you make it a better one. I’m not saying that this applies to all bad situations, some just suck, but most are only bad because we let them be.
I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.

The power of positive thinking is nice but it isn’t a panacea. Life will have it’s bad times, and we will have to pick ourselves up and start over more times then we get to stand on the mountain top victorious. What we don’t have to do is let the world keep us down. Each experience, new person, new anything in life has the opportunity to show us something we need to see. The question comes down to, are my eyes open? Being aware of your situation and what is going on around you makes it much easier to mitigate bad situations and bolster good ones.
Now it may not seem like the perfect time right as we are experiencing whatever is going on, but it will. Given enough time and reflection I’ve found that misfortune tends to bloom into a special kind of wisdom. Maybe it will expose us to some wonderful new aspect to life we would have never experienced had some misfortune not befallen us. We may not have seen the world from a new perspective that helps us relate to and understand ourselves or others.
The Universe doesn’t explain why things happen when they happen. It leaves them for us to figure out. We have to spend the time and energy to reflect on the circumstances of our fortune or our misfortune. Upon reflection we will hopefully find the causes of these events and why they have occurred to us. Sometimes we can’t and just need to keep on walking down the path of life. Being hung up on any particular experience is not a good thing. It ends up hampering our ability to grow and experience new things.
I’ve found when something out of the ordinary happens that causes me to pause, I just try to stuff the moment away and allow my subconscious to chew on it. Given enough time the moment will decompose itself and reveal whatever truths I need to see. Sometimes the understanding happens quickly and sometimes it takes years to understand. I know there are things about myself that I’ve lived with since childhood that I still don’t understand, but sooner or later I’ll grok whatever needs groking.
My life has a superb cast but I can’t figure out the plot.

I know none of what I have said is news to any of you reading this. It’s one of those common sense kind of things that we do whether we know it or not. But simply being a little more conscious of this process makes life just seem a little more bearable and a little more fun.
The miracle is not to fly in the air, or to walk on the water, but to walk on the earth.
