A Battle with the Self.Posted by simon on January 13th, 2009
I just finished reading a comic series called “The Nightly News” by Jonathan Hickman. It was a thought provoking read that inspired through about societal norms and the generation of societal ideas and concepts mainly perpetuated by the news and government. The thing I found most interesting in it were the psychological ramifications of what was being said by the author and the main characters battle with himself and his belief system.
This got me to thinking about my own battles and I found this lovely quote the author wrote for himself as he was trying to break into the comic biz. I found it brief and insightful. It’s his own personal pledge that he said he reads everyday. I wish I could say I read my own personal motto every morning but normally I just try to get out of bed and hope I can just go with the flow of the day.
As to what I think about this quote, I think it would be pretty sweet if I never had another day where I had to fight with my own inner voices to make a decision to do anything. To be able to just “do” freely, without any resistance, sounds like a wonderful perpetual motion machine of life.
I am my own Enemy.
Resistance is my nature.I am aware of Resistance
And it prevents me from achieving the life I am Meant To Have.Resistance is Self-Generated, Self-Perpetuated.
It Lies and Seduces. It’s goal is my Utter Destruction.
Everyday is a battle for my Soul. This Moment, This Day,
I change my life.Help me to defeat myself,
and realize fate.-Jonathan Hickman From the back of “The Nightly News, Trade Paper Back”
